CIA Story – Basement Renovation for the Elderly

Posted by

This summer we, Lin and I, were having some issues that we thought would keep us from serving as leaders for CIA. We didn’t think we would even volunteer this year.

We thought that we would be able to “sit” this year out. Wow, we get to rest! But then faithful Dennis Meyers sends me to advise only on a project that two sisters, Jacklyn and Stephanie, saw the need that their elderly mom had in her basement.

Mold had done damage from a improperly installed water heater that had been leaking for months. Needless to say I was somehow chosen to lead this band of brothers and sisters to renovate the basement. Only a few of us got blisters and wounds from the endless hours of scraping the floor down to the bare concrete, installing sheet rock and fastening shutters on the house that were in an inaccessibly high area.

Lin and I both were again amazed and blessed at the way strangers, gave of themselves and became “friends” doing it. I’m glad God saw our, Lin and my, true desire and not let us “sit this one out”. We found that our “rest” truly comes from the Father and doing His will and we were blessed as we followed thru in obedience.
